The Rt Hon Theresa May commented on the importance of specialist provision for complex nursing Dementia and how passionate she is that families and individuals should have access to these services locally. She was delighted and honoured to open these new facilities which makes such a difference for so many local families.

The development has seen a new community hub created for the residents where social interaction and stimulation which is so important, can be achieved better. This area includes a Cinema for the residents which also doubles up as the Academy training suite.

The training is an important part for Larchfield team which are constantly upskilling, but it also provides training for other care professionals which Cliff (Grand-Scrutton) advocates and encourages promoting knowledge and skills should be shared to improve health and social care and that is more apparent now and in recent months with the Pandemic. Larchfield House is opening the new floor to accommodate younger persons Dementia which is sadly on the increase and a lot of these beds are already taken. This community will have a different look and feel as you can imagine when meeting the needs of younger people which is not often considered, as Dementia is mistakenly associated with older people. Also on this floor is another community dedicated to palliative and end of life nursing care which will provide the right environment for the resident but also the families going through some of the most difficult times.

Larchfield House are delighted the Rt Hon Teressa May MP agreed to do the official opening, but the Larchfield House also plan to operate Dementia day clubs and launch a home care service for people living with Dementia. The new community hub will be able to offer day clubs for none residents to enjoy the day having stimulation and entertainment where they can feel less isolated and can give the main carer a break if there is one. Cliff and the team are also planning to extend specialist services into home care in the coming months where the expert team can deliver care within the local community, this will be a nurse led service which will help relieve the pressure on our colleagues in the NHS community teams.

Cliff is at pains to recognise that none of this would not have been possible without the team which has grown into being the best he has had the pleasure to work with. They surprise and delight everyday with their dedication and commitment and wishes to publicly express his thanks to them and to the Rt Hon Teressa May for her continued support to Larchfield House. The thanks also go to the Local authorities, GP practices and the Clinical Commissioning Group for their unrivalled support and help without the team effort none of this would be possible”.
